Phase 1 orthodontic treatment is for children ages seven to ten, is limited in scope because children do not yet have all their permanent teeth, and is intended to address growth issues such as discrepancies or problems with jaw size, shape, or position.
Phase II orthodontic treatment entails full braces for patients who had Phase I treatment between the ages of seven and ten. Typically, Phase I treatment concludes and then there is a rest or observation period before Phase II treatment begins, usually when kids are age 11 or 12, or whenever they have all or most of their permanent teeth.
